The chromatographic behavior of twenty four amino acids has been studied on silica gel-G, starch and titanium tungstate adsorbent layers using DMSO-1MHNO3 (1:1) mobile phase. Starch and titanium tungstate are found to be more effective for the binary and ternary separation of amino acids. The effect of mobile phase (DMSO –1MHNO3) were also studied on the retention behavior of amino acids on various adsorbent layers. The mechanism of migration is explained in terms of adsorption on these adsorbent and the polarity of the mobile phase used.

o-Toluidine is used to synthesize poly (o-toluidine) (POT) by chemical oxidative polymerization in acidic medium. The synthesized POT is doped with cobalt-octoate with different concentration such as 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10% (w/w). Doped poly (o-toluidine) (POT) films have been made on glass substrate. These films are characterized by UV-VIS-NIR spectroscopy, XRD, FTIR, Photoluminescence studies and I-V characterization studies. UV-visible study shows that optical parameters changed as absorption coefficient (α) and extinction coefficient (k) at higher level of doping show significant changes, in case of doped POT samples. Interestingly, both direct and indirect band gaps exist in the cobalt-octoate doped POT, which decreases with increasing doping level. The FTIR study also shows structural changes / modifications in functional groups with doping in poly (o- toluidine). The XRD pattern of the powder POT shows the semi-crystalline nature of the samples. DC conductivity is measured at 298 K, which enhance after doping.

Phytoremediation is an eco-friendly and non destructive method of dye removal from water and soil. In this research study, phytoremediation potential of a macroalgae Chara vulgaris was investigated as a viable biomaterial for biological treatment of congo red in aqueous solution. The effects of parameters such as reaction time, pH, initial dye concentration, temperature and amount of algae on biological decolourization efficiency were examined with help of UV-Vis and FT-IR spectroscopy. It has been found that Chara vulgaris is efficiently degrading congo red dye in aqueous solution through phytoextraction process.

Chen Hashimoto Model has been used to evaluate the maximum specific growth rate and kinetic constants, significant parameters in anaerobic digestion of vegetable wastes, at various temperatures. The linear approximation and the limitations of their applicability have been described. The samples of vegetable wastes as collected from local market have been taken in an anaerobic semi batch digester. The ultimate methane yield (B0), maximum specific growth rate (μm), and kinetic constant (K) have been estimated using Chen Hasimoto model. The maximum values of these coefficients are 0.032 m3/Kg DM at 460C, 0.39 day−1 at 440C and 0.78 at 440C respectively. Mathematical Models which relate the maximum specific growth rate and temperature have been developed at psychrophillic, mesophillic and thermophillic range of temperatures.

Protonation constant is helpful in many areas like in catalytic phenomena, solute– solvent ‘interaction, biological activity etc. Protonation and thermodynamic protonation constant of different compounds like1- Methyl violuric acid [MVA], 1- Phenyl violuric acid [PVA], 1- O-Tolyl violuric acid [OTVA], 1- m- Tolyl violuric acid [MTVA], 1-p- Tolyl violuric acid [PTVA] at different temperatures have been studied. Variation in thermodynamic functions like ΔG, ΔH, ΔS have also been calculated and analyzed.

Production of polyurethane systems has been made more cost-effective by using castor oil; a naturaly available polyol. During the present study castor oil is blended with phenolic resin and then reacted with Diethylene glycol to obtain modified polyols. Two sets of modified polyols have been synthesized for the preparation of two component polyurethane (PU) coatings using different concentrations of phenolic resin and diethylene glycol. These modified polyols were then formulated using UV absorber BHT, solvent and catalyst and then reacted with isophrone diisocyanate (IPDI) to obtain UV resistant aliphatic PU. The prepared coating was then exposed to ultra violet (UV) radiations in a UV Chamber (Mercury Lamps two bulbs 18watt/ inch each (200-400nm)) for 56hrs. These prepared coatings were then examined with ultraviolet spectroscopic technique before and after exposure of UV radiations. Performance properties of the prepared polyurethane coatings were examined by determining their curing times, chemical and water resistance.
